Come Along For the Ride

Big, BIG shoutout to @thebikeshed Barnstaple for s Big, BIG shoutout to @thebikeshed Barnstaple for sorting out my @iamspecialized Roubaix in double quick time. It went like this: Tuesday evening, I finished my recovery ride and something felt wrong. A quick check and sure enough, I had play in my bottom bracket: last week’s FTP Test had finished off my bearings! I called the Bike Shed and they suggested I drop it in first thing Wednesday morning. Less than two hours later I got a call to say “all done!” How impressive is that? Thanks folks, kudos to you and I’m sincerely grateful! 🙏 I didn’t even miss last night’s Overs/Unders session (= happy Coach @tom_townsend__ ) 👊😂 #thebikeshed #topshop #bestbikeshop #barnstaple #specialized
Did an FTP test yesterday, but there’s nothing p Did an FTP test yesterday, but there’s nothing pretty about an FTP test (dribbling, sweating, gasping mess), so here’s my single most favourite picture from last year: crossing the Kylesku Bridge on Scotland’s NC500. Just me, the bridge, mountains and big skies everywhere. Anyway, back to the FTP test: encouraged by coach @tom_townsend__ of @downingcycling (who did two tests himself last week), I decided to have a go, some three years after I last did one. Sure enough, six minutes in, I remembered why I don’t do these more often: they’re hideous. The next 14 minutes were interesting... 😉 Test over and I’d held 335 watts average, which means a current FTP of 319w and a threshold of 4w/kg. While my FTP has been higher in the past (Max 330w) thanks to Covid I now ride 6 days a week and my weight is down, so my overall numbers (ie w/kg) are the best they’ve ever been - a great place from which to build through the rest of February and March. Hopefully by April I might even be able to go somewhere and put it to some use 🤞 In the meantime, I can feel another FTP test coming up in a month or so: I’m sure I can pace it better 🤷🏻‍♂️😱😂👊 #training #ftp #ftptest #assosldn #assosofswitzerland 📷 @ Ewen MacLachlan
Wales... You still there? Looking forward to check Wales... You still there? Looking forward to checking, just as soon as we’re allowed to visit again 🤞🙏 #wales #assosofswitzerland #assosldn #lonlascymru
